Question: Where do I focus my energy when trying to reach customers?
Guide
Question from a Business Owner: What is the best way to focus my energy when it comes to marketing and reaching customers?
In this post, we’re answering a question from a fellow entrepreneur:
What is the best way to focus my energy when it comes to marketing and reaching customers? I’m torn in so many different directions. Is social media where I should spend all my time? Are there other marketing platforms I should focus on? I need to network too, but where does one find the time to do it all?
To be brutally honest, you probably will never find all the time you need to do all the marketing and networking you want to do.
What’s going to give you the most bang for your buck (or time!)? Start there. And as time goes on, you may find that the answer to that changes.
When it comes to networking, don’t try to join every group and make every event. Start with one, see if it’s a fit. If not, move to another.
If you are part of one group, and you find it’s not working for you, try another. Just don’t spread yourself too thin.
Social media may be the right place for you…
…But know that anything digital is going to require more effort and take more time before there’s a return.
Some tips when you are tackling social media:
- Get started on the right platform (don’t do them all at once!).
- Be consistent and persistent.
- Schedule your posts so you don’t have to have your hands in it every day.
- Create an editorial calendar, so you are never frustrated wondering what to post.
Pay attention to what marketing efforts bring in the most ideal clients.
Moving away from digital for a moment, you may find that referrals bring in the clients you are really looking for.
If so, focus more of your marketing time and money on other ways to bring in referrals (such as networking, creating referral programs, or maybe even email marketing).
The most important thing to remember is it isn’t “one-size-fits-all” in marketing.
There’s no one answer to your question that fits every business.
Pay attention to your target market, evaluate what works and what doesn’t, and reevaluate on a regular basis.
