Oreo’s slam dunk

Feature

Why you should always have a marketing expert in your back pocket

In what turned out to be possibly the most successful ad of the night, Oreo’s marketing team took advantage of the historical lights-out moment at Super Bowl XLVII and quickly concepted, wrote, designed, and tweeted the following gem:

Not all of us can have an entire marketing team gathered war-room-style 24/7. Truth is, most of us will never have that. But that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice creativity because of your budget. While you may never have the funds to employ an army of advertisers, simply hiring an experienced marketing consultant for a few key projects may have a big payoff. That consultant may just have something in their back pocket that you’ve never considered, an angle you’ve never imagined, or a vision you’ve never dreamed of.

The lesson here is: it doesn’t have to have a high price tag to be high impact.
Cost to run a 30 second ad during the Super Bowl this year: $4 million.
Cost to run a tweet seen ’round the world? $0.

And I can guarantee I’ll remember that Oreo ad long after I’ve forgotten about the Clydesdales.
